A museum holds a scroll it will never sell and cannot afford to conserve. A family holds a work through a fourth generation and faces an inheritance charge it cannot meet without breaking up the collection. A temple holds an object of real significance and no means of raising against it.
The market offers those custodians one instrument. Sell.
The Exchange offers a second. A custodian may offer a portion of a work to accredited buyers, receive the proceeds, and keep the work. Possession does not move. Display does not move. The custodian decides where the work hangs and when it travels, exactly as before.
Why this category
Global art sales reached USD 59.6 billion in 2025, according to the Art Basel and UBS Global Art Market Report. China alone accounted for 14 percent of that, and by our estimate transactions inside Asia as a whole account for 18 to 19 percent. The figure understates the category, because the strongest work by Asian makers clears in New York and London rather than in the region that produced it. Counted by maker rather than by sale location, we estimate art by East and Southeast Asian makers at roughly 13 to 14 billion dollars traded worldwide each year.
Industry estimates put fractional ownership of art at about 1.8 billion dollars. The platforms in it buy the same Western blue chip names.
None is built around Asian made art. The hard part is not the marketplace. The hard part is knowing what a work is, where it came from, and whether it can lawfully move.
What stands behind a listing
Orchid Way Collective did not begin as a market. It began as a curatorial platform, and it remains one: seventeen artist studies, six era essays, and a standing open call to makers across East and Southeast Asia and their diasporas.
That work is not marketing for the Exchange. It is the diligence. Every work offered through the Exchange arrives with its roots, documented against a standard we publish openly so that a custodian can read it before they ever contact us.
